Type Locality and Naming
Along the river Tupolang, Mechetli Mountains. N.V. Beznosov, V.V. Kurbatov in 1980 used the name proposed by V.A. Prozorovsky and Yu.L. Verba in 1971 at the Samarkand conference. Stratotype in the Sangmilya section, southern slope of Gissar. Middle formation in Kugitang Gr in SW Gissar
Synonym: Tupolang Suite, Туполангская св.
Lithology and Thickness
Variegated (gray, red, brown, green, yellow) siltstone (aleurolites), sandstones, rarely gravelites, marls, limestones, dolomites, and lenses of gypsum (anhydrites). Thickness 80-140m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Along the position, it lies on the Zarmas Fm, Baysun-Jur Fm or with erosion on the Sandzhar Fm.
Upper contact
Overlain with visible conformity by the Gardarin Fm of the Gaurdak Gr.

Fossils
In the lower part contains ammonites - Peltoceras sp., Oppelia sp., Pseudopeltoceras sp.; marine bivalve mollusks - Plesiocyprina gissarensis Rep., Camptonectes normalicus Rep., Camptonectes tachtensis Rep. and others; foraminifers - Karaisella uzbekistanica Kurb. and others.
